A look back at 2024 for Keyline

23rd Dec 2024

We’ve had a busy 2024 here at Keyline! As we start to look towards 2025, it’s important to take a moment to look back and reflect on all we’ve achieved this year.

From tackling important environmental issues to raising money for charity, we’ve kept busy supporting not only our customers and the construction industry, but local communities as well.

Let’s remind ourselves of some of the highlights from the past year at Keyline.

Bringing much-needed attention to road runoff pollution

An environmental issue that is as dangerous to our water quality – if not more so – as sewage and agricultural pollution, though hasn’t received anywhere near the same spotlight. Road runoff pollution is extremely harmful to waterways, and Keyline identified an opportunity for Breaking New Ground, raising awareness and engaging the industry in finding solutions.

Back in February, we held a roundtable inviting industry leaders and subject matter experts to discuss road runoff pollution, looking at challenges and identifying potential solutions. Since then, we’ve worked to spotlight the topic with a comprehensive whitepaper and a steering group that continues to address issues raised on the day.

Going the extra mile for charity

So many of our team at Keyline have gone above and beyond in raising money for charity this year. Up and down the country, our staff have worked tirelessly to support several important causes.

We’ve continued our support for Prostate Cancer UK, raising thousands and increasing awareness. Back in July, we went toe-to-toe with our colleagues from Travis Perkins for the annual Ferndown Cup, raising well over our target of £1,000 and showing off our football skills, winning the game 6-3. This was just one of many efforts for Prostate Cancer UK – Keyline Rotherham hosted a Charity Darts Day that also hit the bullseye, again exceeding our fundraising target!

In September, our South and South East teams took on a unique challenge to help raise funds for the Maddie Rose Campaign, encouraging young people into the industry in honour of Maddie. The teams walked to each of the 22 streets of the London Monopoly board, raising over £10,000 for the Construction Youth Trust.

Celebrating exceptional individuals: industry award nominations

We know Keyline is filled with brilliant, hard-working individuals – and it’s fantastic to see that recognised by the wider industry.

Owen Sutton, Branch Sales Assistant at Keyline Braintree, was nominated for Apprentice of the Year at the BMJ Industry Awards, a nod to the fantastic start he’s made to his career with us. He shared his advice to other new starters here.

Sam Smith, Regional Sales Director at Keyline, was also shortlisted at the BMJ Industry Awards, with a well-deserved nomination for the Maddie Rose National Rising Star of the Year. Sam shared her experience and advice for those looking to follow in her footsteps.

The marketing team’s excellent work has also been recognised. Senior Brand Manager Kirsten Winnett received a nomination at the BMF Marketing Excellence Awards 2024, celebrating her exceptional contributions to the team and the business.

Making connections at Highways UK

We made inroads as an exhibitor at Highways UK, displaying innovative products on our stand and networking with other industry stakeholders. It was a fantastic event focused on the future of road investment, innovation, and reaching net zero roads at pace.

Keyline had plenty to share, contributing insights and engaging in discussions about innovative solutions for the road sector with visitors to our stand. While at the event, we attended conferences that discussed some of the industry’s most pressing issues and exciting developments – to learn more, you can read our insights and key take-away points from Highways UK 2024 in our quick round-up.

Building futures: making a Material Difference

This year, Travis Perkins plc took part in the Builders’ Merchants Federation’s Make a Material Difference campaign, which highlights the diverse career and development opportunities our industry offers.

Here at Keyline, we are keen to share our experiences, and show young people that no matter your background, there's a career path for everyone in the construction and civil engineering sector. From customer service to the boardroom, we're proud to offer the training, tools and expertise needed to help young people enter an industry where they can make a Material Difference.

Looking ahead to 2025

Everyone at Keyline has worked hard to make 2024 a success. As we move into 2025, we’re excited to build on these achievements, tackle new challenges, and continue supporting our customers, communities, and the construction and civil engineering industry.

We look forward to Breaking New Ground for the industry next year – and seeing what we can achieve by working together. If you’re interested in working with us in 2025, contact your local branch today.
