Unlocking Potential for construction and civil engineering

11th Mar 2025

From innovative problem-solving to creating designs that provide real value for communities, the construction and civil engineering sectors thrive on overcoming challenges and investing in potential.

At Keyline, we’re committed to unlocking potential for your projects and the wider industry – from building partnerships to better support your work, to empowering the next generation of professionals.

Investing in the next generation

Young people are the future of construction and civil engineering – with a pressing labour shortage and an ageing workforce, it's more important than ever to encourage the next generation into our industry. That’s why we want to inspire new faces to join us and the wider industry through the apprenticeship programmes we offer internally, and via the BMF.

As part of Travis Perkins PLC, we have over 1,000 apprentices across 40+ apprenticeship programmes. Our initiatives include upskilling existing colleagues and welcoming new talent with diverse perspectives, capabilities, and skills.

Market-leading apprenticeships: inspiring confidence

Our market-leading apprenticeship programme is central to unlocking potential in younger people.

Owen Sutton is one of our colleagues. He recently completed a Level 2 entry trade supply apprenticeship and is a fantastic example of the benefits apprenticeships can bring to the colleagues themselves as well as to our business. Since starting, he's quickly flourished in a sales role – with his growth deservedly acknowledged with award wins and nominations, and a recent promotion to Branch Sales Manager.

Owen commented on his experience; “I’ve learned so much since I started and really grown in confidence. I’ve led the training for a new apprentice, which made me realise how much I’ve learned – I love teaching and helping people, and it’s boosted my confidence as well!”

Owen is one success story of countless young people finding their footing with Keyline. From working in the yard to marketing, there's so much on offer for careers in our industry, that, as Owen suggests "there’s a job for everyone in it".

Through apprenticeships, we support young people to grow in confidence and encourage them to develop so they can help us secure the future of our business and the wider industry. As part of this commitment, we’re taking part in the BMF’s ‘Materially Different’ campaign to raise awareness of careers in the sector.

Unlocking potential through collaboration

There is also huge potential in our supply chain – and by working closely with manufacturers and contractors to build trusted partnerships, we can unlock that potential and bring value to your projects.

A fantastic example of this was Kier’s Birmingham Highways project; Keyline worked closely with Kier and Saint-Gobain PAM to find sustainable solutions to the project’s challenges, helping to identify non-concrete bollards and PAM's innovative tagging system to meet the demands of the design.

This is just one example of how close collaboration can help unlock potential. With expertise across all major construction sectors, you can rely on Keyline to support your projects, and reap the benefits of supply chain collaboration.

Whether you’re looking for the latest technical innovations or reliable support for your projects, we’re here to help. Our team is committed to facilitating collaborations that lead to smarter solutions and greater success.
